"He wished that he, too, had a wound, a red badge of courage." interesting reading this portion of the book because you can tell that the youth is filled with both relief and shame.

What is traditional courage? What does it mean to be a man of traditional courage? Does it have to do with those soldiers who wish to fight like duelists and not those who are willing to blockade themselves from bullets with dirt and rocks for safety? What does one’s mind experience when going into battle for the first time?
