Julio Pino Dear Allen: A military genius, and eccentric in all the right ways. (Both Union and Confederate officers called him mad.)

Allen Roberts You’re right, Julio—Sherman’s reputation precedes him. But I must say, his memoirs don’t come across as those of a madman, so far anyway. I’ll report back again when I get further through the text (it’s 813 pages!!).

Julio Pino Thanks, Allen. I've always rated him above Grant, and admire him for not going into politics: "If nominated I will not run and if elected I will not serve". His brother who went into politics, author of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, was valuable to the republic.

Allen Roberts I’ll let you know how Sherman’s memoirs turn out… I didn’t his brother was the Sherman behind the antitrust act! Talk about a law that ought to be enforced today—probably won’t happen in this plutocratic society, unfortunately.

Julio Pino You are right, Allen. The Sherman Anti-Trust Act remained mostly on paper until first Theodore and then Franklin Roosevelt became president, and alas, today corporations always find ways to get around anti-monopoly laws.
