There's a hole or two" (160). This is a metaphor that is comparing what someone things of the truth and holes.

Jason Bourne is discerning. In the book Bourne has been captured by professional assassins. The leader of the assassins told one the other assassins to brake Bourne's hand. "Bourne had swung his left hand over his right protecting it. As the blood burst from the back of his left, he twisted his fingers, letting it flow between them until both were covered" (128-129). This shows that Bourne's hands didn't brake.

Jason Bourne is having inner conflict. In the book Bourne is trying to find out why an envelope with secret information is being passed around and what that secret information is. While he was interrogating M. Chernak, Chernak asked why he doesn't know the answer because Bourne was already told. His thoughts were, "...I'm going out of my mind. I see things and hear things I do not understand... Help me"(110)!

Jason Bourne is self oriented. In the book trained killers were trying to kill him. He had to get away so he used a women in the crowed to his advantage. He force her to do what he said or he would kill her with out a second thought. The women is astonished. Bourne replies by saying "I don't care weather you do or not" (98). This shows that he didn't care if he killed her or not.

Jason Bourne does more than needed. In the book he is put in a stress situation to see what he would do. "To the extent it was inflicted? A broken wrist and lacerations requiring sutures on a man's throat and face, and another's skull.A severe concussion, and an undetermined injury to a kidney?" This shows that he does more then is needed to defend himself.

Marie acts erratic. In the book to trained killers are going after Jason Bourne. Bourne has no other option, but to force Marie to help him. It states, "He pushed the barrel of the gun into her stomach, into the dark silk that creased under the force of his thrust. She was terrified into silence, into submission"(70).This shows that Marie is acting erratic because she is doing something unusual, which is helping him.

The patient is bewildered. In the book the Patient goes to a café to ask someone if they could make him a fake passport to go on a plane to Zurich. When he was about to leave man saw him and said, "No! Oh my God, no! It cannot... You! You're dead"(43)! This shows that the patient gets more and more bewildered each day, and he's diagnosed with amnesia
