Historical fiction always feels written in a detached way so as to get through many traumatic events without dragging on - I have mixed feelings about this but the stories are very poetic/creative/the opposite of cheesy which I appreciate. Also, confirmed that this is the book Hugh Jackman raved about on Tim Ferriss show
