He tried to use the paddle as to get massed the boulders on the way down but could not. They aimed clear for the boulder and he went flying. He plunged in the water. He came up and saw derek away with the raft. But a wave came down on him. He tried going sideways which worked. But he was knocked out. He awoke and went to find derek. He decided to swim, he almost missed him but finally found him and the raft.

At first, turning the bends in the river was extremely hard.He found that the paddle helped by jamming it bottom of mud and fend off. The first night he was very tired and could not stay awake. He awoke in but could see nothing in the dark. In daylight he followed the current making good time when he heard a song. It was a waterfall. There was not much he could do.

He built a raft, using logs beavers had cut down. He then used vines to tie it together. He went to go get derek and hauled him on it and before they set off, Brian left a note sticking out of radio if someone comes.

He fell back to sleep. He awoke to explosion and it again was thunder. Derek was moving, he reached out his hand for the radio. As he did so Brian knocked out, while Derek went into a coma. The morning he made sure derek was alive and tired the radio but did not work. He waited for Derek to wake but nothing. He then made the decision to follow the river to the trading post.

The next morning as they looked for food, Brian told Derick to stay close because of a bear. He did so but Brian got to close to an unstable edge, because of the rain, and fell. As he got up he realized that he found flint for fire. Derick watched him as he made fire, taking note of it. The next day Brian thought everything was wrong, the situation they were in needed more tension. That night he awoke to thunder.

As Brian stepped onto the small aircraft and they took off, he realized how nervous he was to be in a plane again. He somehow managed to sleep. Once they arrived Brian told Derick to leave behind the supplies so they didn't use it. He went looking for food and fire stone, as Derick wrote this in his notebook. The rain came and mosquitoes

Brian was home alone when Derick Holtzer knocked on the door. Soon Brian's mother came to join them and Derick talked about Brian and himself to go out into the wilderness again. He thought this was insane, but did it again for the benefit of others
