So what did everyone do over the Great Outtage? Read books? I spent too long on BoredPanda and Reddit looking at cat pics and reading about outraged bridezillas. I wonder why GR was down for so long?

Someone will probably have a conspiracy theory.

I was productive: reading, editing, practicing piano. My theory is they didn't notice anything was wrong for six hours.
I looked at StoryGraph and LibraryThing, and wondered if I'd like them...Anyone have any input to offer?

Storygraph has no social interaction and they only care about pushing fiction. LibraryThing has very little social interaction and has a superiority complex to GR. When Amazon bought GR 10 years ago there was a mass defection to Booklikes and LibraryThing and the LibraryThing people actively wanted LT not to accept the riff raff from GR.

If GR allows massive pre-publication 5 starring, sometimes in the thousands, then what is the objection to 1 starring?\

Authors always ask for honest opinions in reviews. I guess some people can't handle the truth.
Jay wrote: "Authors always ask for honest opinions in reviews. I guess some people can't handle the truth..."You can't blame them really. They spend a long time with a lot of work writing their books, they are their babies. And a bad review knocks both their ego and potentially, their sales, which is unforgiveable to some.

All potential authors have to realize the risk of rejection by the publishers and then by the public if they are fortunate enough to be published at all. It's all a game of chance.

They don't see it sometimes, as chance, but as strategy.

A good strategy if it works, but there again is the risk. It's a dog-eat-dog world. Survival of the fittest author.

Composed the review that I posted after all was back to normal. And went about my daily life, which includes reading.

Mark wrote: "I mowed my lawns and brushed the pups Petra!"Doesn't sound like you freaked (like me) about the interminable outtage at all. You aren't a real addict, lol (I wish I wasn't).
