Susie is in Ruth's body while she is on earth. While Susie is on earth she is with the only person who she loved, Ray from highschool. He doesn't understand what is going on but can tell that this person isn't Ruth. That it is Susie. Ray decided to keep it a secret.. And when Ruth comes back to earth they are the only two who know what happened.

Susie's friend Ruth wants to know what it is like in heaven so bad, and Susie wants to have one more chance on earth. They switch bodies. Susie comes back to earth and Ruth goes to heaven only for a short time. I was so suprised this happened, I never saw this coming and I though the book was going to end in a different way.

Susie is watching her family while this is all happening and she is beginning to realize her family has to let go of the past in order to move forward. They all have to accept what has happend. Susie wants to be on earth again one more time just to kiss the boys she likes.

Mr. Salmon had a heart attack this event forced Mrs. Salmon to come home after she ran away from her family 6+ years away. Her kids Lindsay and Buckley won't look at her, or talk to her. They hate her for leaving them. It is almost like she is in another world. Mr. Salmon is ok, and Mrs. Salmon decided to stay with her family for a while. Even though she has no relationship with any of them.

By now Lindsay and Samuel are out of high school and are getting married. They found a house in the woods that they love. Susie is beginning to learn how to let go of the past, thereofore she was able to see her grandpa for the first time. Susie wants to be back on earth so badly. I wonder if she will come back to life?

Mrs. Salmon has left the family and went to California. She got a job, and has been writing her kids. She wanted to get away from her family and Susie death, although she can never escape it.

Mr. Harvey has left town and no one knows where he has gone. The suspicion of him killed Susie began to grow and the police were visiting his house frequently so he decided to pack his bags because he can't take the risk of getting caught.

In the cornfield all the neighbors, teachers and kids are gathers to honor Susie and pay tribute to her since it has been one years since she has died. The mother, Abby refuses to go because she can't handle the stress and sadness. They sing songs, light candles and all grieve together.

Lindsay decides to break into Mr. Harvey's house (the killer) and try to find any clues or evidence because she belives that he killed her sister. She creeps in the house searching for clues but she can't find anything. She goes into his room and finds his sketch pad and rips our a drawing just as Mr. Harvey walks in the house. She jumps out the window and runs away although Mr. Harvey saw her.
