I’m starting to think that the author never had cats so she is writing what she thinks taking a cat to the vet is like.
Taking a cat to the vet WITHOUT a carrier? Just carrying it there? Being able to hold a cat when it starts squirming? Let me just laugh frantically as I look at the scars on my arms from attempting to hold down a squirming cat.

I just gotta know - WHY would a cat person call the self proclaimed cat hater for medical advice about her cat? When there is google available? And the answer is to always take you cat to the vet.
