The continental army final has a big feast with all different kinds of food, for the first time in a while because all they could eat before this was hot water and firecake. Also, Curzon and Eben make up and they become friends again.

Curzon and the other troops have to make huts and forts to sleep in so they can servive the winter. They have no food at all besides hot, boiled water and firecake.

Curzon and the other patriots come to a camp, and they haven't eaten anything but fire cake in days. They haven't been eating because they found out that the British have been spoiling there food. At the new camp they are at, Curzon and Eben are still not talking to each other, but they have to keep working together.

Curzon sees an abandoned kid named Eben who is being attacked and about to be killed by a redcoat. Curzon steals the redcoats gun and kills him, and him and Eben become friends. But, not long after this, Eben gets into a fight with Curzon about slavery, and at the end of it all Curzon says to Eben, “I'm not your friend anymore." (98).

Curzon notices a battle being fought during the war, and decides to unofficially rejoin the patriots in the fight against the British. He finds a dead red coat, takes all of his supplies and his musket, and just jumps into battle. “ I must finish what I started" said Curzon as he signs papers to be a solider for the remainder of the war.

Curzon is acting very desperate for food and money, and steals from his boss after he got fired. Isabel ran away from him to go find Ruth, and she took all their money. For example, when Curzon realizes that his boss has been stealing from him, he says “you would have done it,too".
