Two Envelopes And A Phone’s Reviews > The Life of Crime: Detecting the History of Mysteries and Their Creators > Status Update

After reading several chapters in a sitting, instead of just one or two as an appetizer - I see the end is in sight. I’m going to finish this tonight, so that my three go-to books for quick reading between long works are all short story collections, for Sept. and Oct., at least.

This has been a fairly entertaining overview of as many Crime & Mystery authors as can be crammed into one Big Round-Up. I have one hundred pages to go, of text that I will actually be reading (so, not the big pile of Index attached to the book’s butt). I will want to get to many books and authors mentioned. When? Who knows. Over time.

Never really was inclined to read Dick Francis much - but the biographical details threw me for a loop, so now I’m curious. And I must finally get to Lionel Davidson.

So, I happened to get to the chapter focusing on Ross MacDonald, just when a Goodreads friends has reviewed The Chill, which is a great read. I think The Blue Hammer is my fave by the author so far; it was also the last Lew Archer novel. The series ended with a terrific book.

I enjoy going back to this book from time to time. Next up is a chapter focusing on Patricia Highsmith; I also have a full Highsmith biography I intend to get to sometime this month.
