God damn the last story Lanterns of Romance was so good. Not as good as Blue Bamboo but man, easily my second favorite story in the book.

Just read Alt Heidelberg, Romanesque, and Jirobei the Fighter. Romanesque was prob my least fav of the 3, since it didn't feel like it amounted to anything, but it was still pretty funny. I really liked Jirobei, it was funny and went in directions I did not expect at all. I Heidelberg was a really nice, but kinda sad little memoir; I liked it a lot. The ending was really depressing though.

Blue Bamboo was definitely the best story so far, even though I was disappointed by the ending. It seemed like Yu didn't even have to make any effort for his relationship problems to resolve, which kinda went against how he is told to immerse in hardship and not envy the life of crows. Where's the hardship?

The Samurai and the Mermaid was pob my fav story so far. Despite how despicable Hyakuemon was, his debate was actually quite reasonable to me on both sides. The Samurai, though admirable, was maybe a little too shy and indirect, and I think that's what largely brought his downfall.

Just finished the Chrysanthemum Spirit. Wtf was that?

gonna try and read a story from this now and then. The first one was fantastic. It already described the family members, and relating the way they tell their stories to their descriptions was super fun in a sour sort of way
