Amazing beginning and middle, lost steam the further in I got. I want to rate this book higher than To Stand Close because parts of it were uber more intense, with superior pacing and writing, but, other parts were worse, and I could barely finish this book, what with the slow crawl and the way the plot developed (not my cuppa).

Oh man, this war is making me tense! It's a hard sell for me, the man-vs-culture conflict, but the man-vs-self and man-vs-man is so good! I think I need to take a break though, read something soft and sweet, cuz this is heavy. (And I hate thinking it's gonna be a bittersweet ending... Please don't, I chant.) Philosophical and individual growth heavy. But good. heavy cream? Lol. Trying to come up with a gold metaphor.

Holy. Shit! Now that we know what Nate was really thinking all this time, now that he's told Jimmy, will Jimmy be humble enough to earn form Nate, to prove his love? To not just act remorseful and act as of he's learned something a she did for the judge, but to actually learn something about himself? Man, good thing it's only 50 percent over--this is gonna hurt hard and good. The pace is amazing.
