Audience and Purpose: Cassandra Clare, the author of this book, has dedicated this book to her grandfather. I believe that the purpose of this book is to simply entertain the readers with an action-packed adventure that starts from a normal life into a crazy story that nobody expected. The audience of the book might consist of teenagers who might be looking for an entertaining book with adventure and a good story.

Protagonist: In the "City of Bones", our protagonist is a teenage girl named Clarissa, or Clary as she is called. She was born and raised by her mother without being informed about who her father is. She is a kind, curious girl who wants justice and strives to defeat Valentine. Although she has a theory that her father might be the main antagonist she wants to confirm and confront him, and will do whatever it takes.

The 7 Story Archetypes: In City of Bones, the protagonist Clary has set out on a journey to find her lost memories with her friend Jace. This would automatically default to a quest story, however, there is a main antagonist that both protagonists want to defeat. There is both revenge and anger in both of them as they journey. Even though both archetypes are in play, the "overcoming the monster" seems to fit the most.

Characterization: In City of Bones, the main character, Clary, is a mundie that is underestimated and not taken seriously, even though her strength can outweigh most of her surroundings. Her feelings and emotions are not expressed throughout the book, but we can tell what she is feeling based on what the story tells us she is doing. For example, fighting the ravenger, she gives off that she is exhausted and tired.
