So, within a month of his kidnapping there was a letter on the desk of the Governor of the State of New York describing what had happened. The Governor decided not to pursue the kidnapping and Mr. Northrup spent 12 years in bondage. Have I ever mentioned on here how much slavery makes my blood boil?

In Louisiana ca 1843 a slaves weekly ration consisted of enough corn to make a peck of meal and three and a half pounds of bacon. Due to the warm, humid climate, the bacon had a tendency to spoil.
