Something about this narrative style gives me such half-baked conscious energy that I really hate hearing it.

But let me add - I think this narrative style is effective for younger readers, the storyline is interesting enough to keep me going, and I can usually turn off the part of my brain that cares and still enjoy the book enough - so, not really a bad book deserving of a bad rating.
