Johnny was in the hospital and Ponyboy and his brothers went to visit him. The doctors would not let them in to see him. He said that Johnny was dying. So, Dallas pulled out a switch blade and threatened him if he didn't let the boys in the hospital room. The doctor let them in. While Ponyboy was talking to him, Johnny died. Now Ponyboy and his brothers and friends are trying to survive with out him.

So far the book is pretty interesting. Ponyboy just was released from the hospital. However, Johnny is still in the hospital. The reason they were there was because they were burned in a fire at a church.Ponyboy saved two children from the burning church, which he accidentally set on fire. They ran away to that church. They ran away becuase Johnny killed a soc- (the soc was drowning him).
