I sometimes find it difficult to keep up and understand this book. Humbert switches between first person and third in his retellings, and often speaks French in large portions, which I don't understand and don't bother to look up. Also the pacing is sometimes strange to me, skipping months at a time and moving quite quickly, from house guest to husband in 20 pages.
