While reading with my group I found an A-HA moment because Uncle John took Beverly and Maddy on a trip and they stopped at a tavern. Beverly almost walked in through the front door which isn't allowed because he's a slave. Uncle John told him that if he were to walk through the front door he would have been taken. This makes me feel bad for all of them because they are limited and it's hard for them to do their work.
