THIS BOOK IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE WILD and I find like Robin, I am cheering for the demise of the British Empire, for violence, for burning. I can’t help but feel as if I am being misled to hate for much the same reasons I was misled to love the past. A masterwork in storytelling and history and fantasy.

SO much fizzling conflict and meaning. R.F Kuang is genuinely a genius for inventing a fantasy world so similar and mirroring our own prejudices. But oh man is this a long one lol. I have so much further to go.

Omg this is so interesting- esp when I am living in a foreign country for the next week or so and I have a lot of language on my mind. The way that this translation and magic system works hand in hand with the iron-fisted colonialism of the British Empire. Cool, fascinating, victorian beans
