This leads John having to hunt a deer by himself this year instead of with his grandfather. He has to the hunt the deer to survive the coming winter to put food on the table for his family.

TYPES OF CONFLICT: There are multiple different types of conflict in this story. One of the types of conflict is character vs. nature. This is because he is trying to kill a deer for his grandfather but he is getting some inner conflict. The other form of conflict in this book is character vs. self. John is getting at himself for trying to kill the deer because he feels it is the last bit of his grandfather left.

SETTING: The setting that Tracker is set in is in the woods and swaps of Minnesota. The town that they live in is called Grand Forks. They live in a small house outside of Grand Forks on a Farm. The family that lives there always has a tough winter and has to survive by tracking deer track and shooting them for its their only source of new food in the cold winter.
