I wondered how she could, considering that the girl was the cause of her son being convicted of murder.” (p. 67) Well it’s not like Zoe’s corpse accused Brody. Lina is the only somewhat sensible person regarding Zoe but still doesn’t entirely back away from victim blaming.
Cici whines that Jack still sees her as 8 years old. Whining won’t help that.

There’s too much pointing to one character being the real killer that I’m going to be really disappointed if it turns out to be them. But at this point, while the killer could be anyone, no one else has been really built up as a suspect - so a twist reveal would feel a bit out of nowhere.

Is there a point to including the grandma’s death? It feels like nothing but a distraction from the main plot. Also, I find myself getting very irritated with Cici over the way she’s acting about her grandmother. She didn’t want to see her in the hospital & she’s whining about having to attend the funeral.
Cici is hellbent on solving this murder but doesn’t jump at the chance to look over the crime scene?

I’m glad Cici is noting that people keep saying Zoe “Got herself killed,” but she takes that as evidence Zoe caused her own murder rather than side-eyeing those using the phrase. Zoe was 16! There was nothing she could have done that warranted killing her.
It also bugs me that the only reason Cici is investigating Zoe’s murder is to prove herself to Jack. Not for Zoe or Brody or even Jack - for herself.

Having Jack point out that Cici is “no longer flat chested” does not endear him to me as her love interest. She may have breasts but she’s still only 14 & not ready for what many 17 year old boys want in relationships. (He also apparently gave her the sex talk a couple years ago. Weird 😬)
It feels like Zoe, the victim, is being slut shamed (Nobody would have to force her). The 30+ year old dude is a creep.

Me, an avid fan of 80s slasher flicks that has binged the Friday the 13th series many times: “um, it would be more odd if there wasn’t…”
If there’s a dude named Jason hanging around, my money is on him being the real killer.
Not a fan of the potential 17 year old love interest for the 14 year old heroine. Such a gap in sexual maturity.
