This is after they've become ...shall we say ... friendly. The book's only 12 years old - it reads like something written a lot longer ago than that at times. I don't care if this guy is a vampire, a shifter, or random redneck - the fact that the FMC is ok with this behavior lowers my opinion of her.

OK, but see, when Morgan called Garcia "Baby Girl" in Criminal Minds, it was a private joke between them, what started out as provocation and became deep affection. When Damon calls Kit "Baby Girl", it's a continual ignoring of what she wants, and at minimum borders on minimization and dismissal. There's no story behind it, no history, no justification - and that makes it icky.

That is a hilarious statement considering the tremendous amount of injury she's taken while he's been mere feet away

I wonder if I was less sensitive to abusive situations when I first read this years ago, or if somehow it wasn't as in my face on the Kindle. Because I'm having a hard time getting through Kit Colbana being bullied, sexually harassed, and physically injured in every single scene.

It's so amazing how so many female narrators have the exact same voice for male characters - down to the accent. All other narration is unique to themselves - guys? All the same. Weird.

I'm like fifteen minutes into this and the main character has said "my sword arm is mighty I will not falter blah blah blah" literally ten times. It's a whole litany. This is another one of those "but I loved this series years ago" things that makes me wonder about my tastes then. (Or it could just be the narrator.)
