Started this a couple of days ago. So far, not a noir… not a typical action-packed Starr novel. Instead this is a compelling coming-of-age story about a young 18 year old’s plans for college interrupted by a local made-guy’s insistence on the kid making bets with the neighborhood bookie. Soon he’s deeply in debt and the made guy’s refusing to pay up.
