CONFLICT: The type of conflict in "Unwind" is character v. society. The main characters in this story were going to be killed, or unwound, which is normal in this world. They ended up running away in search of a safe place for them. They fought the ideas of their society in order to live.

CHARACTERIZATION: Connor is a character who is very passionate, loyal, and strong, both mentally and somewhat physically. However, he gets angered very easily which causes a lot of bad situations. He often gets in fights, which led his parents to try and get him unwound. Obviously that didn't work. Connor felt betrayed, frustrated, and alone. That was until he found people he cares about.

THE 7 STORY ARCHETYPES: I think Unwinds story archetype is "The Quest." Risa, Connor, and Lev are all searching for a place to survive until they are 18. They face many obstacles and challenges, both physically and mentally. The Quest archetype is when a group of people or a person search for something and face lot of obstacles. So, according to that description, it is the most well suited archetype for Unwind.

SETTING: We follow a lot of settings in this book. The first one being a highway and or neighborhood that Connor lives in. Then we follow the chase which leads Connor and Risa to be eventually sent to hide out in a basement for a while. After that they were transported to a place called "The Graveyard." This is the setting we spend the most time in.

SETTING: Unwind takes place in a dystopian version of our world in the future. There's not too many changes to the way the world looks in general, maybe a few advancements (being able to change your eye color, etc). The only things that have really changed in this book from real life, is society and the government. They have changed a lot in this book, following a war that broke out over abortion rights.

MAKING CONNECTIONS: Unwind explores the topic of abortion a lot, in various ways. However, it never really overloads the book with a strong opinion, instead it explores the debate over abortion. It reminded me of whats going on in the world currently, about the strong icy tension going on between two sides of the idea. Abortion was made illegal in some states of the U.S, so it was also interesting for that reason.
