Kind of feels like it wants to be a kind of Becky Chambers take on A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation Called Peace (smooshed together) without understanding what made the duology great or the Becky Chambers books such tea for the soul. That sounds mean— it’s not that bad, it’s just not as original as it wants to be.

I feel like we have had so many lackluster Becky Chambers imitators in the bookmarket this past year, I wish people would just write their own things (or at least understand what makes Chambers so dang good) 😭
