Maisy can be described as a integrationist. This is a result of Melvin's dad telling her how it was very difficult to get a house in the neighborhood they live in because of them being black. This made Maisy mad because she thought it was unfair to have problems to get a house just because of your race."That's not right Maisy exclaimed it's cruel and unfair"(211).This shows how Maisy is a integrationist.

One trait to describe Melvin is brave because when the Dine-Dance was burning down Melvin went back into the building to try to find Lenny and take her out.Chuck was taking Melvin out of the building but he went back into the apartment Lenny was staying to try and find her."Melvin! Melvin! what are you doing. He didn't stop until he was through the door of Lenny's apartment"(199). This proves that Melvin is brave.

One trait to describe Melvin is timid because when he and his friend were hanging out his friend asked him if he was going to ask his crush out to homecoming.He said no since he was too scared to get rejected by his crush Millie. "He didn't want to hear her say no Or rather, no thank you which is what Millie would say because she was polite"(123). This proves that Melvin is timid.

One trait to describe Melvin is scared because when Mrs Stimson called his name for attendance he didn´t respond since he stutters a lot. The teacher told them to say present when calling their name but when she called Melvin he froze in fear since he didn´t want to stutter in front of the class.¨Lockjaw set in. He opened his lips in an attempt to vocalize but nothing came out. This proves that Melvin is scared.
