This is definitely one of the more baffling cases Mulder and Scully have ever encountered. A bizarre scientist with a clear understanding of right and wrong, in striking contrast to his shadow, which is an indiscriminate destroyer, as a strained Dr. Banton tells Mulder: “It will kill you, it doesn't care who you are" (p.67)
