This is said to be a standalone... well I am 2 chapters in and super confused. What are Maer? Why does Aene have a beard (is she a dwarf or do all Maers be hairy?)? What is a Delve specifically? What is the big deal about the Forever Blade? Why are humans and Maer in a war? How did that start? So Maer have to use stones to do magic and humans not? Um? What are Timon? And I got more! I am just not enjoying myself.
