Coming-of-age novel about a single mother and her three very different children. I think it's a good novel, but it's so far away from what I'm in the mood for right now. I wish I could give it a fair go outside of class!

Tyler I swore off of Anne Tyler after Saint Maybe. I feel like I should like her stuff, but I just can't.

bookme4life Tyler, did you read the book or watch the film? What did you hate about it?

Peter, is this your first Anne Tyler?

Peter That's how I feel about this book so far, Tyler. It reminds me of Mary Karr's "The Liar's Club," which I LOVED, but I'm just not in the right mindset for right now.

And yeah, Katrina, this is my first Anne Tyler! Do you like her?

bookme4life I've noticed that her books tend to get made into Hallmark films... Back When We Were Grownups, Saint Maybe... I keep taking her new books home to read and I have yet to manage to read one. If you were a veteran of her, I was going to ask what the appeal was and if's worth my time to finally get one down.

Peter Oh, I see. Nope, this is my first encounter with her. It seems to me that "Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant" would make a crummy Hallmark movie, since it's so full of dysfunction and abuse.

Tyler More like a Lifetime movie.
