Part Six:
(1) The Nightwing portion is the best of the tie-ins so far. Though, the bar's been set fairly low.
- There's a lot of emotion here, which is a good thing, but it's a bit too much shock horror for my liking.
(2) I'm not the biggest fan of Kyle Higgins' Dick Grayson. He spends too much time tormented and joyless.
- Nightwing's at his best when he's a happy warrior.

Conclusion & Epilogue:
(1) "Batman #17" is one of the best single issues of recent memory, but I'm sick and tired of reading it.
- This was my 7th time! Previously, I'd read it in series volumes for Batman, Batgirl and all four of the Robins.
- Confusingly, all those books were also titled "Death of the Family."
(2) The last issue is all dreams sequences, which... whatever.

Part Seven:
(1) Having now read all the tie-in comics, I can say that this Robin portion is the best one. Which isn't surprising, since Tomasi is the best writer of the bunch.
(2) As much as I enjoyed this, I'm really not a fan of Patrick Gleason's art. He draws everyone spoon-faced.
- Though, it kind of works for Joker since it makes his face look like a Greek comedy mask.

Part Five:
(1) So, the Red Hood and Red Robin portion of the book is a crossover within a crossover.
- At 86 pages, it's the longest section, though it probably has the least amount of plot.
(2) The main story is the Teen Titans and Outlaws, minus their leaders, working together to fend off Jokerized homeless folk.
- Just feels like a video game side-quest. Merely busywork.

Part Four:
(1) On the face of it, the idea of the Joker forcing Batgirl to marry him seems a decent idea, very Silver/Bronze Age, but nothing much is made of it beyond the brief visuals.
(2) I forgot how saccharine and self-pitying Gail Simone's writing is. Sure, it's nice to have a flawed protagonist, but to harken back to it so much just makes for an overly-neurotic hero.

Part Three:
(1) This section is 29 pages of "Suicide Squad" with 10 pages of "Batman" in the middle.
- We have two distinct versions of Harley: scared and still-lovesick Harley by Snyder and Tynion, and aggressive anti-Joker Harley by Adam Glass.
(2) The "Suicide Squad" portions are just an excuse to get Joker and Harley together so they can kick the crap out of each other.

Part Two:
(1) Every time I emerge out the back end of an Ann Nocenti story I just let out a big exhale, like I can finally breathe again!
- It's like fingers on your throat, strangling all comprehension, causing you to grab at thin air, desperate for any anchor to reality.
(2) The worst thing about Ann Nocenti might be her dialogue.
- It's like bad free-form beatnik poetry.

Part One:
(1) I'm fairly convinced John Layman can't have ever been a Batman fan.
- I wouldn't say this crosses the line into parody, but it's not too far off.
- Batman shouldn't be quipping as he fights. I don't think he even did that in the '66 TV show. Quips are Robin's thing.
(2) This is a kind of nonsense story bolstered by top-tier art.
- The art makes this palatable.

Notes:
(1) I've already read all this in other volumes. The reason I'm reading it all again is because this book combines all those stories into one coherent narrative, or so it's claimed.
- One of the biggest irritations with the New 52 was they would do a lot of crossovers, but also included those issues in series volumes. So, there were continuation and context problems.
