Thinking about the fact that Cherry was my age whilst he experienced all of this is kind of blowing my mind as much as it’s breaking my heart.

Literally had to stop and stare into space for several moments at both Cherry's descriptions of antarctica, "the snow seldom looks white...cobalt blue or rose-madder and all the graduations of lilac and mauve which the mixture of these colours will produce". and then ONE PAGE LATER he hits us with "death comes for you in the snow...and you greet him rather as a welcome friend". OKAY.

Hindsight is a great thing. Someone should have told Scott that his expedition had so many red flags before it even left Nee Zealand.
