Book 8 - beautiful mystery indeed. I love mysteries in monks/convents and Penny does a beautiful job in describing the sublime nature of their chants.
And the plot thread about Gamache & Beauvoir's relationship, and Francour's manipulation = 😭 exactly the heart-wrenching drama I love from Penny and her characters.

Book 9 - the mystery itself was nice and kinda sad, but not really the main focus of this novel. I'm so glad to finally (FINALLY!) get a resolution on the Chief Superintendent Francour master plan (YAY Gamache!!! YAY Lacoste!!!) and also on Beauvoir's addiction & downward spiral (poor Jean-Guy, awww Ruth, and awwwww on the final chapters). 5/5 stars for book 9. :-)

Book 7 A Trick of the Light - 5 stars. It's a beautiful, heartwrenching, and heartwarming story. I love the deep dive into Clara's art career. I love how Ruth continues to wait for Rosa (esp coz Rosa WILL return in a future book). And I absolutely love the development of Gamache and Jean-Guy's relationship, Jean-Guy's guilt and then resentment, and his addiction to painkillers (esp coz I know he'll turn out ok).
