I was alternating between this and a classic novel when I exercise; when I found myself happier listening to this than the novel I was reminded of St. Ignatius of Loyola who wrote about the same experience. Listening to this book touched me deep inside and I am DEEPLY happy when I read/listen to it. I have enjoyed other Carthusian works and know I will order more books by them.

“I will lead you into the desert and I will speak to your heart” (Hos. 2:14). This text is very sacred to monks because it refers to the ultimate goal of withdrawal to the desert. They leave the world because they want to listen. The desert is a place where communion with God can be deepened and fulfilled. In silence, people will discover their own being in a manner hitherto unimagined.
