The theme in my book is What side do you choose.Because through out the book from chapter one you hear to different sides battling against each other for North America called (The Republics) and the (Colonies). The main character June was fighting for the republic but found out they were the ones who slaughtered her family members and not the colonies.Even though she told the colonies were the cause of it.

One of the main characters June has a mischievous personality. For an example of her personality being mischievous,"We've been in this room for six hours, and Thomas has gotten nowhere with me. My answers to his questions lead us around in circles,and I've been manipulating the conversation until he's wasted another hour."(97) This makes her able to avoid getting caught by the republic soldiers.
