The book threw quite a surprise at me. Eon had competed with 11 other candidates in an attempt to become the Rat Dragoneye, which would bring her great fortune and power, and she lost. She had planned ahead for when she lost and was going to run away from her master because she was now useless to him. However, at the last moment, the long lost Mirror Dragon reappears and claims Eon as its dragoneye.
