I think Katniss's personality makes the story go on. Without her caring personality she wouldn't have had volunteered for prim to go into the Hunger Games the first time. If she wasn't brave she couldn't have won the 74th Hunger Games. She wouldn't even be the mocking jay leading the capitol rebels into battle.
