first book done. three stars; a lot of it was entertaining if repetitive and clunky, and then came anvil romance and deus ex super rushed ending. i'm at this stage more interested in the history of the final empire than the aftermath of the coup, so really hoping that will be revisited.

second book done. was surprised to find out that brandon sanderson is married given that this reads like he's never met a woman and they're just this peculiar thing he's read about. still interested in the history though even though this took a hella turn for the implausible YA here. bracing myself for disappointing answers! also Jesus christ this is long and overwritten.
