When my great uncle came home from WWII, he eventually started journaling his story. His personality and tone is captured well in the writing and as I read it, it is almost as though we are sitting together over a cup of coffee (or wine, which he equally enjoys) while he regales me with his stories of hardship, pain, comradery and success. I may be biased, but this raw first-hand account of WWII is worth the read.
