Ooh it's kicking off! This is a strangely addictive book. I don't know if it's something about the cosy portal fantasy nature of it, but I am finding it quite hard to put down.

The writing is not amazing, but there's something weirdly addictive about this book. All I want to do at the moment is go back to reading it. The magical realism is a huge factor, and I love the Welsh vibes (in Canada, because why not?). There are a lot of directions this could go and I'm interested to see which one it takes.

So far reads a bit like my teenage efforts to write a portal fantasy (with the exception that it has lasted for more than 20 pages...) but there's something comforting about the "girl working in second hand shop finds mysterious item and gets pulled into an adventure" format. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
