The first chunk after the mediocre intro/frame-thing is fun, slow paced, and interesting. Now I'm mostly annoyed and trying to remind myself that the character is like 16 right now and that her behaving in some ridiculous ways makes sense for that age but MAN that's why I don't read YA. Hopefully it gets better as she ages out of it. Still got half the book left to go.

I will never get over fantasy/medieval stories where a 17 year old is trusted with the life of people/fate of the world/horrible secret. It's just really funny to me.

Neat so far.
It's got a "frame story", which I put in quotations because the frame feels like afterthought, only a few pages at the beginning so far, written in a very different tone with stilted German scattered throughout. I almost wish they'd left it out, I think it would have been a much better beginning treated just entirely like a faux memoir without the frame OR with a better frame that reappears in between.
