There has been another murder of a Hollywood actress. Lily thought it was a friend of hers named Jinx. In the picture she sees, it seems to her that the woman is wearing her coat she had. When she gets home, it isn't Jinx. Lily hears about a group of people Kitty may have hung out with. Lily goes in and talks to people who may have known her. While they're talking, there is a gun fight and Lily makes it out alive.

Lily gets a letter from Kitty's Lawyer that dates 2 days before she was killled. Lily then goes to visit his house. But when she goes to his house, he is dead, it looks like he commited suicide or someone pushed him off. The detectives are on to her and are suspicious as to why she went there.

Gadge's friend who is a kid found the purse and a shoe of Kitty's. Lily is wondering what the murderer did with them when she died. Lily found a letter confirming she was pregnant. The letter is addressed to a famous actor named Kirk. Lily doesn't know how it happened since Lily acted a small part in a movie when he was working on the same one. Kirk denies having a relationship with her and says he didn't know her.

Lily has found out that kitty was pregnant at the time of her death and that kitty went to a fake doctor who was said to fake abortions just for money. Kitty now maybe has a motive for murder. Lily misses her old home and her fiancé who died in WWII. She is thinking of leaving and going home.

Lily has been looking for people who had connections with Kitty and finds a man with whom she worked with. Max was in love with her but Kitty's feelings weren't mutual. Lilly thinks that maybe he killed her after he found out she didn't love him. There is also another murder that appears with the same M.O. but they think it is just a copycat.

The book then skips to some gangsters which are talking about the murders. A gangster found the shoe of Kitty she was wearing when she died. The gangsters are talking about what to do and if they find the killer they are going to punish him. They then decide that they will talk it over with their boss

Lily has been into a suspected murrderers house without them knowing and she has found photos of Kitty being tourtured. Kitty had been known to be the special effects actress that workedd with him but that was going too far. Lily also found rope in his closet. Lily went out the window before he came in, Lily then called the police about it and they couldn't find anything about it.

In the book Lily is interviewing some of the people Kitty encountered. Kitty met a film director and the director said she was in most of his more violent films. Lily thinks that maybe the special effects violence escalated and that he killed Kitty. He also said he gave her a scarf the day she disappeared and the way she died was asphyxiation. The scarf was not there when they found her so that is a probable weapon
