great so far! even more concise/clarifying than 'from victory to defeat to defeat' tbh, though written in midst of cultural revolution rather than after.

covers
sources of revisionism in societal contradictions.
organization of proletarian & bourgeois factions.
rebel vs loyalist red guards.
agriculture, industry, education, culture, military, foreign policy - lines & transformation.
to be both "red" and "expert."

"With hundreds of millions of people "fighting self" in order to "oppose revisionism," mass consciousness in China is on the verge of an extraordinary leap, the consequences of which can scarcely be estimated. No such effort has ever been made anywhere in the world before. One thing is certain, however. It will be that much more difficult for any group to lead China down the capitalist road in the future." Kathryn Hinton's writing is so clear and sharp. i need to read Fanshen & Shenfan soon, haha; they're so long tho, lol. will probably get around to them after going through the rest of the works on Chinese cultural revolution i have, and after investifating class struggle in the USSR, keeping class contradictions and line struggle in mind (Stalin-Trotsky split, errors in mass collectivization, assumption of the end of class struggle, explosion of contradictions during the Great Purges, revisionist capitalist restoration under Khrushchev & Brezhnev, etc.)
