Shirley’s essay compares translations of a beautiful line of prose from The Fugitive about remembrance. The crépuscule drive slowly being effaced from memory reminds me of the Desjardins allusion in Swann’s Way ‘now are the woods are black but still the sky is blue’. In his first sunsets without Albertine he feels himself forgetting, night is fast falling. He can console himself looking to the sky 🌌
