I started! It is pretty readable, although this doesn't surprise me because I found AK readable. But I'm already annoyed by the footnotes. It would be better if it would be a pop up box that I could read within the context of the text. Particularly in this edition as the translations didn't include the English words in the sentence so it is incomplete to read.

Dear Kindle, I know I'm finally half done, but I'm pretty sure I won't be finishing the book in 43 minutes, awesome as that may be. (I feel like such a Charlie Brown...zzzzz)

At the reading page rate I'm going, I will just barely finish this before the new year. But better done than never. (Mr. Tolstoy, why must you write so well about something so dull?)

Book 3, Volume I complete. This was harder to slog through with lots of battle strategies and outlines and men being manly and not so manly. But hey, almost a quarter done. Oy.

Book 2 finished! In a lot of ways, much better than Book 1, even though this was mainly battle stories and I am not much of a fan of war stories. But man oh man can Tolstoy do character development. Prince Andrei is my favorite at the moment, although I like Tushin and Dolokov.

Part 1 of Volume 1 done. No offense to Tolstoy, but this kind of made me think this was one gigantic Russian soap opera. I enjoyed it, but I think I liked the intimacy of Anna Karenina better.

You guys! Why didn't you tell me this was so good?! Oh wait, you did. Only 4% done, but it's 2% more than I expected to do today so yay for reading good books again!

Nothing is so necessary for a young man as the company of intelligent women. (p. 15)
