i love this play so bad it's not even funny. for the past ... honestly like 4 months? i have been thinking about rereading it and i think it's finally time

this was... incredibly good? i didn't expect much but they weren't joking when they said this is maybe the best play from the siglo de oro. the themes, the characters, THE LANGUAGE...
the ending was a little unsatisfying to me but i am SO intrigued by segismundo imprisoning the soldier in the tower. what does it meant to be raised as a monster and then be "civilized" when what's accepted by society is monstrous too?

i love you rosaura but this is the second 8-page monologue i have encountered in this play and i was almost not strong enough to get through it

reading golden age spanish theatre isn't enough i need to be cast in one of these plays immediately

going to start citing basilio as why i don't trust ppl who believe in astrology. you're telling me he saw "in the stars" that his infant son would be a bad king so he shut him in a tower alone for his whole life but now that there are succession problems his plan is to put his son on the throne but if he actually is a tyrant he will put him back in prison and have his 2 grandchildren get married and rule. HELLO????

i forgot rosaura was disguised as a man and when clotaldo started being like "well HE is my SON but i can't tell HIM and i have to kill HIM" i was like ?? did you just trans rosaura's gender for a little laugh. but now i understand.
