The minor character in the book is Jackson, the purpose he serves for the plot is that he tries to survive, and also finds ways to have fun with his buddies and most definitely protect them because he cares so much about his buddies.
An antagonistic character but not really a character it's a creature that can’t talk but it's called a wingwretch. The Purpose the creature serves probably to destroy anything its way.
