About a quarter through and its already more interesting and more ambitious than 'The Road' which I felt marked an endpoint in style and theme. The comparisons to Pynchon that I've seen floating around seem a little wide of the mark: I think the thalidomide kid is Cormac Mccarthy fusing the Shakespearian Jester of Twelfth Night and King Lear with some quintessentially American Tradition of a vaudeville freakshow.
