"Bringing a doxy from his bed to a family meeting about Kit's fate proved Will capable of every kind of selfish, decadent, unthinking folly."

- Is it completely wrong of me to find that statement hilarious when said meeting included their mother, a courtesan who had a child with each of her noble protectors???

Oh my. *blinks* Sex scenes are not a strong point of this author.

"One could go mad behind the walls without some study--people, that was my subject."

"Their virtues or their faults?"

"Their voices, who they truly were."

"He had his mother's eyes and her capacity for extremes. He was the lion in the old tale with a thorn in its paw. Wounded, trapped in anger at the world's evils, he would not find his lost brother. He could search all of London and find only injustice and pain.

She was the mouse, the partner, who could free him as he had freed her."

This isn't a deal breaker for me, but I find it rather eye roll worthy that the heroine can hear a voice once and can mimic it perfectly.

"This time he'd not follow her. He had no claim on her."

- That's the most sensible thing I've hear yet.

What the hell? Maybe I was being optimistic, but I expected this book to make sense.

I find it more likely that she would have been jacked right then, but I'm willing to go with it. :)

new_user LOL. It is very ironic, but I can see why. The courtesan's supposed to be the hoity toity high class doxy, LOL. She would never mingle with one from the street.

Tammy Walton Grant LOL!

Catherine I don't think he (the brother) thought she was an actual prostitute. I think he was just using it as a scornful term for someone his brother hooked up with.

Catherine But either way, I just find it kind of baffling and hilarious. The lot of you are bastards from different daddies and your mom is a prostitute. And you're ticked your brother brought his hookup???

message 5: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant That IS funny, Catherine. Are you liking the book any better now that you are further into it?

Catherine No. :( I'm not angry or pissed, I just don't care. There's no depth or motivation for any of the events or attraction between the h/h. Basically, the book is leaving me cold.

message 7: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant Are you going to finish or are you bailing?

Catherine I'll finish it most likely. It's rare when I dislike a book enough not to.

message 9: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL! In that case, they are definitely pot and kettle.

message 10: by Kerra (new)

Kerra Hope you do finish it and wish I could say that it gets better, but honestly it doesn't sound like it will.

Catherine LOL. I still have hope. :)

message 12: by Nisha (new)

Nisha Considering what you have told us about this, I don't. But we'll be cheering you one from the sidelines. >_<

Catherine Thanks, Nisha. ;)

message 14: by Kerra (new)

Kerra I agree, lol, I would hang in there and I applaud you for finishing it :)

Catherine I'm getting closer. ^_^
