"Dinosaurs" (1985) by Geoffrey A. Landis (4/5)
What if the iridium seen at the K-T boundary was radiation from the future? This brief story conjures up a way for that to happen. (poor dinosaurs).

The anthology ends with what I can only describe as a steampunk time travel tale with a twist. I thought started strong but went off the rails (or should I say gears?) towards the end.

Well-written contemporary story with a dinosaur theme woven throughout. Not really science fiction.

"The Nightblooming Saurian" (1970) by James Tiptree, Jr (4/5)
An amusing tale of the lengths a group of time-traveling scientists went to keep their expeditions funded.

Meticulously crafted story about time travel. You kind of figured out what the ending was going to be, but the setup and execution (even using the noise from the pneumatic drill to make the ending even better) was just perfect.

The Big Chill meets horror in this creepy tale. Four Wyoming high school friends see a weird creature after prom, then reunite decades later to seek it out again among the ancient cliff faces along US 20. Given the title of the anthology, you can kinda guess the ending, but even so, it gets there in an interesting way.

"The Runners" (1978) by Bob Buckley (4/5)
Like several other tales in this collection, "The Runners" concerns a scientific expedition to study dinosaurs. This one dealt with a discovery that the fossil evidence couldn't have predicted, and one that surmises why the dinosaurs suddenly disappeared. This story was written just before the Chicxulub crater was discovered, likely the cause of the K-T extinctions.

"Getting Away" by Steven Utley (1978) 2/5
A weird combination of seventies dystopian nihilism with mind-jumping into other people/creatures throughout time . The closing point was that the dinosaurs at least had the dignity to die off gracefully without the taking the planet with them (!)

Interesting story about a scientist finding out the hard way whether a newly-hatched dinosaur knows its way back to the nest. One mark against it was a throw-away line which completely misunderstood the King Canute story (he commanded the tide to come to prove that he wasn't all-powerful).
