Siddartha feels new sense of peace, telling Vasudeva how he feels. Vasudeva seems to have absorbed all of his sorrows. Siddhartha realizes Vasudeva is equally enlightened.

Siddartha is depressed and on his period of greed and over indulgence. He chants "om" before diving into the river, attempting suicide. But when he is in the water, he realizes destroying his body will not end his suffering, then he falls asleep. He awakens with a sense of rebirth.

Siddhartha abandons his samana ways and has indulges in wealth and lust. He then realized he does not feel whole being greedy and leaves, leaving Kamala. After Siddartha leaves Kamala realizes she is pregnant with Siddartha's child.

Samsara: siddhartha's samana (wondering ascetics) heart begins to fade away and Siddhartha forgets his values. He begins to spoil himself with foods like," moisture entering the dying tree trunk"

Siddhartha begins to give away his clothes, fast, and will only eat once a day when he is not fasting. Extremely altering his past way of life to make way for his devotion to Buddhism

Siddhartha tells parents about his new career path, they are upset. Due to siddhartha's extreme determination, his father gives him his blessing. Siddhartha and Govinda leave to find the ascetics.
